Old Employee, more than 5 years
Pros
It'south an interesting midsize NYC museum. Peachy education initiatives for underserved pupil demographics of NYC. Attempts at implementing DEAI principles are underway, such every bit they are. There is a lot of potential if the correct decisions are made by leadership for the future of the organization, and if they tin can manage to emerge from the pandemic in an okay identify.
Cons
This museum simply cannot seem to ever go ahead. Staffing wise, cipher will meliorate until certain senior staff positions are replaced, specifically in finance, operations and marketing/communications. The negative qualities of these actively bad managers affect staff, operations, and morale beyond all departments, and even so the individuals are rewarded with (sometimes extremely) long years of service. This would be easier to stomach if there was a way to hire more managerial/back up staff who could have more than responsibilities delegated to them, but there are not plenty resources. There is a pregnant deficit from years of prior mismanagement and for some reason, donations seem to be difficult to come up by. Even though I think development tends to raise a fair corporeality every yr by working really hard, it'southward never plenty and they need way more help, probably from board members. There also doesn't ever seem to exist plenty coin for sufficient advertising to ensure that visitors show up. If you detect, at that place are never any subway or autobus ads around NYC like there are for other museums. Then it's a barbarous cycle, particularly at present nearly 2 years into the pandemic when resources had to get drastically cut last year. As well I accept heard the leadership is non turning out to be very amenable to preserving employee flexibility moving forward, evidently having learned very little from the experience of trusting their staff to WFH all this fourth dimension.

This museum actually is one of New York's underappreciated gems. The content of the exhibits and programs is fascinating and make for very rewarding piece of work. Most colleagues were a pleasure to work with.
Cons
The management lacked clear vision and priorities. The continual financial challenges led to many poor decisions and emptying of staff and programs that could have assisted with the revitalization of the institution.

Turnover in certain departments remains loftier due to poor management and mistreatment of staff. It's disheartening to see Hour and executive staff consistently turn a blind middle to bullying.
